July 4th is right around the corner and every year between July 4th and July 6th shelters see a 30% increase in lost pets. We here at Animal Works want to give you some tips on keeping your pet safe during the festivities.
1. Before the festivities begin check that the collars are well-fitting, and the tags have up-to-date information. If your pet has a microchip be sure you know the number, and your information is up-to-date with the company.
2. Leave your pets at home if you go out to a parade or party. Even the most well-trained pets can get scared by loud noises and take off.
3. If the party is at home, keep your pets safe in an enclosed room. Make sure they are comfortable with their crates, beds, or blankets, and don’t forget to leave some water.
4. Consider using some natural calming methods such as a Thundershirt for dogs, or calming pheromones for cats.
5. And make sure to keep fireworks, alcohol, and marijuana away from all pets. Fireworks can cause injury, and alcohol and marijuana are toxic to all pets.
The 4th of July is fun for humans but can make our pets nervous. Let’s keep them safe and comfortable this year and leave the festivities to us!
