As we approach the holidays, we all want to find the perfect gift for family and friends. However, despite all the cute videos we see on social media of surprising a family member with a cute puppy or kitten, giving a pet for the holidays is rarely a good idea. Puppies and kittens are a long-term commitment, and once the excitement of the holidays wears off, the excitement of the new furry friend might too.

When adopting a new pet, it is important to ensure that the puppy or kitten is a good fit for the family and household. Some dog breeds need more exercise than others, or some are predisposed to medical issues requiring care later in life.

But this doesn’t mean you can’t surprise them in other ways!
You can surprise your family with the money for the adoption fee so they can go to the shelter after the holidays to find the perfect fit.
You can also buy toys, beds, treats and other pet essentials for the incoming pet.

Adding a furry friend to the family is always fun, but it is important to ensure they are the right fit at the right time. Wait until the hustle and bustle of the holidays are over, and research to find what animal or breed is best for you and your family.

And don’t forget to bring them to us for their spay or neuter!
