IT’S TIME TO CELEBRATE! Change a Pet’s Life Day is an annual celebration on January 24th to raise awareness about animals in need, encourage pet adoptions, and show support for animal shelters. This day isn’t only life-changing for our pets, it changes our lives for the better too!

How can I make a difference?

Adopt a pet: You can adopt a new furry family member from a local shelter, giving an animal a second chance at life in a loving forever home!

Donate: You can donate to local shelters in need. Although monetary donations are always needed, they don’t have to be! For example, towels, blankets, gently used toys, supplies, non-expired and unopened dog and cat food, are happily accepted at shelters and animal rescue organizations.

Foster a pet: Through an animal rescue program or shelter, you can provide a temporary safe space for animals awaiting adoption. This is often a critical step for incoming dogs and cats who are very fearful, have never been around people, or have a hard time socializing with other animals. Learning to trust in a new environment can be hard work! Also, litters of puppies and kittens who are too young to be adopted out yet, rely on foster homes.

Volunteer: Spend time helping local animal shelters and rescues with everyday tasks such as walking dogs, cleaning kennels, and socializing the animals. If you have dog training experience, that’s very beneficial in helping dogs learn the ropes before adoption. Sponsored adoption events always need extra hands to help too.

Spread the word: Social media platforms are an excellent resource in networking and advertising about pets up for adoption, fundraising events, and ways to get involved in helping homeless animals in your community.

Sponsor a pet’s care: Contact your local shelter or animal rescue about donating money to directly support the care of a specific animal currently residing there. This helps cover costs like food, medical treatment, and housing, without necessarily taking the pet home yourself.  Typically, you’ll receive updates on the pet’s well-being and can sometimes choose which animal to sponsor based on their profile.
